What the HELL do you do in El Paso? (Part II)

The Lincoln National Forest

As I was saying earlier, El Paso is in a great spot if you like to be outdoors.  Another great place that is only about two hours away is the Lincoln National Forest.  You wouldn't expect to have such a large forest so close to El Paso, but it is there.

It's a great place to go hiking, camping, etc.  And the elevation is high enough at some of the campgrounds (around 10,000 above sea level) that the temperature gets into the 40's during the middle of summer.  A WONDERFUL oasis from the desert heat of El Paso.
My personal favorite town in the forest is Cloudcroft, it kind of reminds me of Sicily, Alaska from the TV show Northern Exposure.

What the HELL do you do in El Paso? (Part I)

...Not really anything for the most part. Ok, let me explain.  There are lots of things to do in the city that are typical in almost any city.  There's the zoo (which truly is one of the nicest I've ever been to), the normal theme parks, water parks, etc. There is an increasing number of hip, foodie restaurants and night clubs to check out in the University/Kern area. There is even a good number of sporting events to go.  El Paso has both minor league baseball and hockey, and there is always UTEP Football and Basketball to keep us sports junkies busy.  But what does El Paso have that is different from the norm? Every major city has its "thing".  Austin has its music, Vegas has its gambling, Napa has its vineyards.  What does El Paso have?

Progress?

Here are some pics of the house in progress.  I've added some "Before" and "During" pictures.  Unfortunately I haven't reached the "After" stage yet on a single room in the house.  Lord, that will be a glorious day...

Time to get in gear

Looks like it's time to get moving:
Now's the perfect time to plant the winter veggies

Ok, so instead of planting I made these

And they were fabulous...
